Dez and Marie met at Rosie's pub, a dark and dingy bar in Vero Beach - the closest place to Marie at the time that had a pool table.  Dressed to the nines, Marie was playing pool when Dez asked Marie, "I'll play you for a drink."  Little did Dez know Marie's billiard skills or that she had $0 to pay up for the gamble - she literally needed to win this game.

Dez was completely uninterested in Marie, alleging that she was "a stuck-up rich bitch" from the way she and her friend, Tracy, were dressed. Marie was far from rich or stuck up, but her outfit displayed a different narrative.

Meanwhile, Marie was thinking to herself, "Don't fall in love with this guy."

Marie won the game (phew!) and was able to stay and play for a little while longer.
